Like many of you, I was deeply saddened by the recent fires that devastated the Palisades and other areas of Southern California. Some of our clients lost everything—homes and belongings reduced to ashes. It’s truly heartbreaking.
Thankfully, some of our clients had Backblaze we installed on their computers before the fires, allowing them to retrieve their data from the cloud. This technology offered a small but meaningful piece of relief in an otherwise overwhelming situation.
For years, I’ve strongly encouraged the use of Backblaze cloud backup alongside local backups. Whether through emails, invoices, social media, or personal conversations, I’ve consistently emphasized the importance of securing your data against risks like fires, theft, ransomware, or other disasters. It’s a priority for us, and it’s why we’ve been using Backblaze on our own computers since 2015.
To help protect your data, we’re offering a free remote session for a limited time* to set up Backblaze on your computer. If you already have Backblaze, this free offer includes a checkup session to ensure everything works properly.

My own words…
On the late morning of January 7th, I was driving from a client in Downtown LA to another in Venice. At first, I thought I was looking at an interesting marine layer, but as I drove closer, I realized it was actually a fire. Living in Southern California, I’m no stranger to wildfires, but this one was on a completely different level due to the high winds. After finishing up in Venice, I rushed home. As the fire spread and new ones ignited, I began working on our evacuation plan. Thankfully, no fires reached us in Burbank. However, family and friends who were at risk reached out, asking if they could stay with us if they needed to evacuate, and of course, our home was open to them. Sadly, some people I know lost their homes, but they are safe, and for that, I’m incredibly grateful 🙏🏼.
What stood out during this challenging time was how the city came together. Donations poured in—food, water, clothing, and shelter for the victims. The generosity extended beyond individuals; big corporations and sports organizations, even those from other states, contributed millions to support the firefighting efforts. International aid also arrived, showing solidarity in the face of devastation.
These are difficult times, but they also remind us of the power of community and compassion. Each of us can contribute in our own way, and I’ve done what I can. I’m deeply grateful for all of you 🙏🏼.
